Fr. Raja Kommareddy SVD, Parish Priest
Kia ora!
I am Fr Raja Kommareddy, a Catholic priest and missionary belonging to the Society of the Divine Word (SVD). Born in 1983 in India, I felt the call to religious life from a young age. In 1999, I joined the Divine Word Missionaries and was ordained a priest on January 9, 2014.
Since then, I have had the joy and privilege of serving in a variety of pastoral and formation ministries across Australia and New Zealand – from parishes in New South Wales and the Northern Territory, to seminary formation, and now as Parish Priest of Te Awakairangi Parish in Lower Hutt, New Zealand.
My ministry is grounded in compassion, presence, and a deep trust in God’s guidance. My academic journey through studies in English Literature, Philosophy, Theology, and Spiritual Direction continues to shape and enrich my ministry.
Though my vocation has taken me far from home, my heart remains close to my family. My mother lives in India, and my brother’s family is based in Melbourne, where she often visits. Their love and support have always been a strong foundation for my life and calling.
In every place I have served, I continue to encounter God in the people, cultures, and communities I am blessed to walk with. It is a joy to serve here at Te Awakairangi Parish, and I continue this journey with deep respect, gratitude, and hope always faithful to the mission.
God bless you!
